After the monumental success of Thriller, Michael Jackson and co-producer/collaborator Quincy Jones produced a slicker funk/dance confection.
Bad is currently certified at 8x Platinum by the RIAA in the United States, and worldwide has sold an estimated 32 million copies. In addition it achieved 5 #1 singles in the U.S., a record that has never been broken.

Michael Jackson set another record with this album, becoming the first (and currently, only) artist to have five songs to hit #1 from one album.

It turned out to be the last collaborative effort by Jackson and Jones.

In September of 1987, Jackson embarked upon his first solo world tour to support this album - The Bad Tour, which saw Jackson during the next sixteen months perform 123 concerts to over 4.4 million fans worldwide.

"Dirty Diana"is a song by American songwriter and recording artist Michael Jackson that is featured on Jackson's seventh studio album, Bad. The song was released by Epic Records on April 18, 1988 as the fifth single from Bad. The song presented a harder rock sound similar to that of "Beat It" from the album Thriller. "Dirty Diana" was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. The songs lyrics pertain to groupies, and has a moderate tempo.
"Dirty Diana" was generally well received by contemporary music critics. The song was also a commercial success worldwide in 1988, charting at number one on the United States Billboard Hot 100, The song also charted within the top ten in multiple territories internationally, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy and New Zealand. "Dirty Diana" was the fifth and final number-one single on the Hot 100 from Bad. In 2009, after Jackson's death in June, the song re-entered charts, mainly due to digital download sales. A music video for "Dirty Diana" was filmed in front of a live audience and was released in 1988.
"Dirty Diana" was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones and appeared on Jackson's 1987 studio album, Bad. The song was released as the albums fifth single. After "Beat It", "Dirty Diana" was the second hard rock song of his solo career and it is specifically a hard rock ballad with lyrics that are about a persistent groupie. Jackson hired Billy Idol's former guitarist Steve Stevens to back him on the track. Initial reports at the time suggested the song was inspired by an alleged affair between Jackson and his close friend Diana Ross, however this was later denied. In an interview from the special edition of Bad, Jones later confirmed that the songs lyrics were about groupies. Jackson also confirmed this during an interview with Barbara Walters and he stated that it is not about Princess Diana, though he was told personally by Princess Diana that it was her favorite song by Jackson.
In his Bad review, Los Angeles Times' writer Richard Cromelin describes "Dirty Diana" as "trying to be this year's 'Beat It'--a hard-rock song about a tenacious groupie that's sent into orbit by a Steve Stevens guitar solo". All Music Guide's Stephen Thomas Erlewine also considers "Dirty Diana" as a hard rock song, observing on the album that, "This meant that he moved deeper into hard rock, deeper into schmaltzy adult contemporary, deeper into hard dance -- essentially taking each portion of Thriller to an extreme" and qualifying the track as the, "misogynistic 'Dirty Diana'".

Jon Pareles, a writer for The New York Times viewed "Dirty Diana" as a song about a "groupie who latches onto the narrator, mixes the sexual fears of 'Billie Jean' with the hard-rock lead guitar of 'Beat It'". "Dirty Diana" is written in common time and moves at a moderate tempo of 104 beats per minute. Jackson's vocals are sung on a range of Bb3 to G5. The instrumentation consists of guitar and piano, and is played in the a key of Bb Major.
Critical and commercial reception
"Dirty Diana" received mixed reviews by contemporary music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, a writer for Allmusic, felt that "Dirty Diana" and "Man In The Mirror" were "showcasing Jackson at his worst" on Bad. Music critic Robert Christgau viewed "Dirty Diana" as a "misogynistic as any piece of metal suck-my-cock". Jon Pareles described "Dirty Diana" as 'reducing" Jackson to a "terrified whimper".[6] Davitt Sigerson of Rolling Stone gave the song a more positive review, describing "Dirty Diana" as being Bad's "filler", commenting that the song, along with "Speed Demon" is what makes Bad "richer, sexier, better than Thriller's forgettables". Sigerson noted that "Dirty Diana" was a "substantial recording" because of its "insubstantial melody."Jennifer Clay of Yahoo! Music commented that while Jackson's more edgier image was a "little hard to swallow", the image, musically, worked on the songs "Bad", "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana", but was not "to the degree of Thriller".
"Dirty Diana", similar to Bad's previous singles, charted within the top twenty and top ten worldwide. "Dirty Diana" peaked at number one on the United States Billboard Hot 100 on July 2, 1988, after nine weeks on the chart. "Dirty Diana" was the album's third consecutive single to peak at number one on the Hot 100. Internationally, "Dirty Diana" charted within the top thirty in all of its major territories. The song peaked at number one on the Spanish charts, having topped the chart for one week. The song also charted within the top five in Denmark, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, peaking at number two, three and five. The song entered the United Kingdom charts on July 16, 1988 at number fourteen, and the following the song charted at number four, where it peaked for two weeks.
"Dirty Diana" peaked at number six in Italy, number seven in Austria, and charted at number nine in France. The song charted at number seventeen in Norwegian, as well as charting within the top thirty, peaking at number twenty nine and thirty, in Sweden and Australia, respectively. Following Jackson's death in June 2009, his music experienced a surge in popularity.In July 2009, "Dirty Diana" saw a strong chart increase, mainly due to digital download sales. The song charted at number eighteen on the French Digital Singles Chart on July 4, 2009. On July 12, the song peaked at number thirteen on the Swiss Singles Chart. "Dirty Diana" re-entered the United Kingdom charts on July 4, 2009 at number fifty, and the following week peaked at number twenty-six; the song began falling off the charts in the following weeks.
Music video
The accompanying music video was filmed in early 1988 in front of a live audience during Jackson's Bad World Tour. The seven minute long music video was directed by Joe Pytka. The video starts with the screen saying "Pepsi Presents Michael Jackson Tour 1988" in front of a white background for forty seconds; "Pepsi" is written in its logo. After showing a black screen, the video starts to show Jackson, who is shown from a distance, performing in front of an audience with the only source of light being blue lights. During Jackson's performance he is dressed in a white coat, black pants and has metal rims on his pants while singing and dancing. In between Jackson's performance from a distance, there are clips of him performing up-close while singing into a microphone, as well as clips of his female guitarist performing behind him. Jackson then begins dancing and singing to the female before walking down a cat-walk and dancing near a male guitarist. Jackson's performance is then shown from distance again and the video ends with Jackson finishing his performance and the lights turning blue. The music video won the "Number One Video In The World" at the 2nd World Music Awards held on April 14, 1989.
Live performances
"Dirty Diana" was performed during Jackson's Bad World Tour concert series from 1987 to 1989, but only in the second leg, as the 10th song in the setlist. According to Jackson in an interview with Barbara Walters, "Dirty Diana" was scheduled for a live 1988 performance at Wembley Stadium during the Bad World Tour; however, Jackson felt the song would be an insult to Princess Diana, who was in attendance, so he had it removed. After Diana informed him the song was actually one of her personal favorites, Jackson stated that he re-added the song to the set list.
According to This Is It concert series choreographer, Kenny Ortega, stated in an interview, "Dirty Diana" was going to be performed by Jackson for the concerts from 2009 to 2010. Ortega said that Jackson had rehearsed the song before he died, but he would be working on the end of the performance on the day he died. The song was apparently going to be performed before Beat It. The set up for the song would include an expert pole dancer who would lure Jackson onto a giant steel bed which she performed acrobatic feats on, then after chaining him to the bedposts they would be engulfed by curtains ready to perform the next song.

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is a popular ballad by singer Michael Jackson featuring a duet with Siedah Garrett. Written and composed by Jackson, it was originally intended to be a duet between Jackson and his woman of choice: either Barbra Streisand or Whitney Houston. Even Aretha Franklin and Agnetha Fältskog (formerly of ABBA) were offered the song, but all four had other obligations.

However, songwriter and Quincy Jones protege Garrett, who wrote Jackson's song "Man in the Mirror", volunteered to sing with Jackson thus giving Garrett her first hit since Dennis Edwards' 1984 hit, "Don't Look Any Further". Garrett is quoted in The Billboard Book of Number One Hits by Fred Bronson that she was unaware she would be singing the song - although she had received a tape of it - until the day of the recording session, when Jones told her to step up to the microphone and sing it with Jackson.

The song became the first of five consecutive number-one Billboard Hot 100 singles from Jackson's Bad album. It also reached number one on the Billboard R&B and adult contemporary charts. It was Jackson's second number-one song on the AC chart (his first, coincidentally, had also been a duet: 1982's "The Girl Is Mine" with Paul McCartney). It was released without an accompanying music video.

Originally, the album version featured a spoken intro by Jackson backed with a longer version of the opening music. This intro was mixed out on future releases of the album.

Chart performance
"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was the lead single off of Jackson's much-anticipated Bad album. The single debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at #37, the week of August 8, 1987. The single was the highest debuting single of 1987, and quickly traveled to the top quarter of the Hot 100, advancing to #16 in its second week, and soaring to #1 in its seventh week on the tally, the week of September 19, 1987.

However, due to the album title song's quick release as a single (it debuted on the Hot 100 at #40 in the same week that "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" hit number one), the duet had a relatively short chart run and fell out of the top 40 just five weeks after topping the chart, spending a total of 11 weeks in the top 40. Billboard ranked it as #43 on the year-end Hot 100 chart for 1987.

The track spent three weeks at number one on Billboard's Adult Contemporary singles chart, becoming only the second Michael Jackson single to top that chart and the last one to date (although "Man in the Mirror" would come close to topping the chart when it reached #2 in 1988). It also reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart for the week of August 11, 1987 and ranked #30 on the year-end UK tally.

In his autobiography, Moonwalk, Jackson stated the song was not written with someone in mind, but that he had been thinking of someone when singing the song live.

Smooth има няколко значения - гладък, равен, любезен, хладнокръвен, спокоен и т.н. И колкото да звучи странно и нелогично ще използвам "гладък" .

не знам, според мен гладък е най-точен превод на smooth. вчера бях зомбирала с тези преводи, и главата ми изпушка, не знаех кое от всичко да напиша, тъй като не знам кое от всичко се има впредвид и реших най-нелогичното. "спокоен", "любезен", "уравновесен", "равен", "лесен", "лицемерен".... Е, не, ГЛАДЪК звучи най-добре :D Не, аз съм свикнала да превеждам буквално и затова... поправете ми смешния превод, така, както смятате вие за правилно. Със сигурност 'гладък' не е.

Ако изхождаме от превода на думата "Smooth" за нрав, което търсим в случая, то буквално би трябвало е : "спокоен", "уравновесен", но на мен никога не ми се е връзвало така. За мен е: "ловък" , дума, която изобщо не съществува в превода за "smooth". Може да се използва и "хитър", но буквалния превод не върши работа в случая и всеки може да интерпретира по вътрешно усещане. Определено Ани си е имала работа с наемник ;)

И понеже говорим за творчеството тук, което не се свежда само до текст и превод, искам да ви постна и любопитна информация за "Smooth Criminal".

Well, Annie is the name of the CPR practice dummy. When you take a CPR class, you’re taught to make sure the victim is OK, so you yell “Annie, Annie, are you OK?” before you start CPR or artificial respiraton. If the victim responds, they likely are not in need of CPR. If they do not respond, then CPR may be called for. The lyric is directly related to the CPR training. (ie: “Mouth To Mouth Resuscitation, Sounding Heartbeats, Intimidations“…)

Also interesting to note about the song is that the heartbeat at the beginning of the recorded song is actually Michael’s. The opening heartbeat was recorded by Dr. Eric Chevlan, and digitally processed using a synclavier /това всички го знем, нали?/.

"The Way You Make Me Feel" is a song by American songwriter and recording artist Michael Jackson. Released by Epic Records in November 1987, it was the third single from Jackson's seventh studio album Bad. Written by Jackson and co-produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones, the song is credited as being a pop, funk and R&B song. The lyrics pertain to being in love with someone. Aside from appearing on Jackson's Bad album, the song has also been featured on the first disc of Jackson's complication album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I in 1995 and This Is It in 2009. "The Way You Make Me Feel" has been covered by multiple recording artists since its release.

The song received positive reviews from contemporary critics. "The Way You Make Me Feel" became Bad's third consecutive single to peak at number one on Billboards Hot 100 music chart, and charted mainly within the top ten and twenty internationally. A music video for "The Way You Make Me Feel" was released at the time showing Jackson perusing and dancing with a woman. Background and composition

"The Way You Make Me Feel" was recorded by Michael Jackson in 1987 for his seventh studio album Bad, which was released the same year it was recorded. Epic Records released the song as the third single from the album in November that year. "The Way You Make Me Feel" was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. Before the recording of Bad, Jackson had written over sixty songs for the album, with plans of releasing a three disc album, but after Jones convinced Jackson to make Bad a one disc LP, "The Way You Make Me Feel", as well as ten other songs were selected for the album.

"The Way You Make Me Feel" generally received positive reviews from contemporary music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, a writer for Allmusic, listed "The Way You May Me Feel" as well as the album's title track, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "Man In The Mirror" as being a 'track picks' from Bad. Erlewine commented that out of all of Bad's songs, "only three can stand alongside album tracks from its predecessor" which were "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel," and "I Just Can't Stop Loving You". Jon Pareles, a writer for The New York Times, commented that Jackson's songs, "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "say nothing more personalized than their titles".

Richard Cromelin, a writer for The Los Angeles Times, described "The Way You Make Me Feel" as being a "loping shuffle". David Sigerson, a writer for Rolling Stone commented that "The Way You Make Me Feel" was "nearly as good" as being the third best song on Bad. Greg Quill, a writer for the Toronto Star, commented that "The Way You Make Me Feel" was to a "lesser extent in the love songs" because the song dealt "more with surrender than conquest or self-gratification." Rickard Harrington, a writer for The Washington Post, commented that on songs like "The Way You Make Me Feel," Jackson "sings the way he dances".

Chart performance

"The Way You Make Me Feel" generally charted within the top ten and top twenty positions on music charts worldwide. The song peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 on the chart's issue date of December 26, 1987. After charting within the top ten for five weeks, the song peaked at number one on the Hot 100 on January 23, 1988. "The Way You Make Me Feel" became the album's third consecutive single to reach number one on the Hot 100. "The Way You Make Me Feel" also charted on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Charts, peaking at number nine, and on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi Single Sales Chart at the peak of number three. The song also charted at number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles Charts and Dance Music/Hot Club Play Singles Chart. The song entered the United kingdom music carts at number sixteen on December 5, 1987. The following week the song moved up thirteen spaces to number three, which was the song's peak position. The song stayed at its peak position for two consecutive weeks, and remained on the country's chart for ten weeks, before falling out of the top 100 positions, only to re-enter the charts two weeks later. The song peaked at number two on New Zealand music charts on January 17, 1988, and remained on the chart for a total of eleven weeks in 1987 and 1988. In the Netherlands, the song debuted on the chart at number twenty on November 28, 1987. Two weeks later the song charted at its peak position, at number six. "The Way You Make Me Feel" debuted at number fourteen on Switzerland charts on December 13, 1987; the following week, the song charted at its peak position at number eight. The song charted within the top thirty positions for ten consecutive weeks from 1987 to 1988. The song debuted on French music charts on December 26, 1987 at number 47, and eventually peaked within the top thirty positions at number 29. The song charted within the top 50 positions for ten consecutive weeks on the country's chart.

"The Way You Make Me Feel" re-entered music charts worldwide after Jackson's music was re-issued for the Visionary album. The song debuted on the Spanish Singles Chart at number one on April 9, 2006. The song remained on the country's chart for ten weeks. In Italy, the song debuted within the top ten, peaking at number seven, on April 6, 2006; after two weeks, the song charted out of the top 100 positions. "The Way You Make Me Feel" re-entered Dutch charts on April 1, 2006 at number 24. The song re-entered French music charts on April 1, 2006 at number 59; the song remained within the top 100 positions for two consecutive weeks. Following Jackson's death, his music experienced a surge in popularity. The song re-entered Dutch charts for the third time on July 4, 2009, at its peak position at number 40; the song remained on the chart for four consecutive weeks in 2009. The song charted within the top ten, peaking at number six, on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs on July 11, due to digital download sales. The song debuted on Swedish charts at number thirty on July 3, and peaked at number twenty four the following week. On July 4, the song re-entered the United Kingdom charts at number 47, and peaked at number 34 the following week.

Music video

The music video for "The Way You Make Me Feel" was directed by Joe Pytka. Almost seven minutes long, the video begins with a female walking down streets alone, with a clip being intercut that shows a male (Jackson) talking with other people. Shortly after the male walks out of an alley and stands in front of the female while she's walking down the street, although she ignores him and keeps walking. He gets her attention by shouting, and then begins singing "The Way You Make Me Feel" to her while also dancing. Uninterested, she walks away. He follows her, having been cheered on by his friends to pursue her. Another dance routine begins, involving the males friends, which leads to the male pursing the female throughout the neighborhood. The video ends with the male eventually winning the female over, embraces her, leans his head to her, and for the first time in one of his music videos, kisses her on the lips, while a fire hydrant is spraying out water. The music video was released in late 1987, and received one nomination at the 1988 MTV Video Music Awards Ceremony. The video, alongside Jackson's '"Bad" video, was nominated for Best Choreography, but lost to Jackson's younger sister Janet's video "Pleasure Principle".

"The Way You Make Me Feel" was performed by Jackson on all three of his world concert series tours as a solo artist as well as during award shows. For a majority of the songs performances, Jackson would wear a blue dress shirt with a white t-shirt and black pants with a white belt. The song was first performed in concert by Jackson during the encore of the second leg of his Bad World Tour from 1987 to 1989. He performed "The Way You Make Me Feel" at the 1988 Grammy Awards Ceremony, during which he wore his signature outfit and his signature black fedora, while doing a dance routine with four other dancers, and performed the song along with another of his songs, "Man In The Mirror".

"The Way You Make Me Feel" was also performed during the first leg of Jackson's Dangerous World Tour from June 1992 to November 1993. The tour was supposed to be longer, but was canceled due to Jackson's health concerns and stress from the child sexual abuse accusations made against him. The next, and what would be the last concert performance of the song, was during Jackson's world concert series tour, HIStory. The song was performed during selected concerts from September 1996 to June 1997. The last performance of the song was at the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special in 2001 at Madison Square Garden on September 7 and September 10, 2001. The video footage from the performance (which included Britney Spears) was featured on CBS in November 2001, as a two-hour television special. Since March 2009, Jackson was preparing to perform "The Way You Make me Feel'" during his This Is It concert series from 2009 to 2010. Following Jackson's death in June of the same year, video footage of Jackson rehearsing the song was featured in the 2009 concert documentary film, Michael Jackson's This Is It.The video rehearsal footage was also featured on the films DVD in January 2010.
Cover versions and influence

"The Way You Make Me Feel" has been covered by multiple artists since its release, and the song's music video has been influential on other artists' material as well. In 2003, the music group Shakaya covered "The Way You Make Me Feel" and released their version as a non-album single. The song only charted on Australian charts, peaking at number 21 on the country's music charts. After Jackson's death in June 2009, John Legend and a visibly emotional Stevie Wonder did a cover of the song as a tribute to Jackson at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert held at Madison Square Garden for a HBO television special in December 2009. In December 2009, Stacey Solomon, a contestant on the X Factor in the United Kingdom, performed a cover of the song during the show's semi-finals, which received mixed opinions from the show's judges.

In January 2010, The Jonas Brothers band member Nick Jonas performed the song during a concert at the Warner Theatre in promotion for his Nick Jonas and the Administration album. Dave McKenna, a writer for The Washington Post, commented on Jonas' performance of the song that "whatever spots of trouble his ambition got him into" citing Jonas' "falsetto faltered" cover of "The Way You Make Me Feel", as well as another song, were able to be "carried through" by Jonas' band members. In February 2010, Whitney Houston performed "The Way You Make Me Feel", along with Jackson's Thriller's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", during her I Look to You Tour. Pop singer Justin Bieber and rapper Ludacris stated that the music video for "The Way You Make Me Feel" was very influential of the music video for their 2010 single "Baby". Bieber, a fan of Jackson, commented that the video, similar to "The Way You Make Me Feel"s video, "will capture the song's message of trying to woo back a girl."Ludacris said that the video "is like a 2010 version of Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel".Despite the plot of "Baby"'s music video being similar to "The Way You Make Me Feel", the video is nearly three times shorter than Jackson's video.
